What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a specialist natural therapy which uses infintessimally minute natural substances to influence and stimulate the body’s own healing systems to heal appropriately.
The word “homeopathy” literally means “similar suffering” and is based on laws of nature, i.e. that which causes suffering can heal suffering. We see this all the time in nature, but very rarely think about it. Take an unpleasant smell – it can be overpowered by a stronger smell, but not by loud music. Similarly a loud noise can be nullified by another loud noise, but not by switching on a light. Starlight from other suns is obliterated by our sun’s more powerful light at dawn. This is the natural law of similars and, we human beings are no different. Disease patterns can only be destroyed by similar patterns which can cause those disease patterns in the first place – this is the basis of homeopathy.
These specific patterns also occur when a substance is given in large, crude doses. Of course this is not therapeutic to an ill person, so homeopathic remedies are reduced in size and administered in minute doses. This stimulates the body’s reactive processes to remove the symptoms (specific patterns).
An example: take the symptoms of a person who drinks too much coffee.
Often they have difficulty sleeping, are irritable, suffer headaches, and
feel better lying down..
When someone exhibits these symptoms for any reason – not necessarily
from drinking excess coffee – the homeopathic remedy Coffea will help
alleviate these symptoms.
Coffea is made from coffee beans, however the remedy has been diluted
and potentized so only the energy of the coffee bean is left. In this way, it
does not harm the patient; rather it helps heal them.
You will notice the word “potentized” in conjunction with “diluted” in the above example. Homeopathic remedies are not just diluted solutions of the original substances – truly these would not have the healing effects that homeopathically prepared remedies do. The diluted substances need to be potentized or succussed in the process. This simply means vigorous shaking of the bottle containing the liquid remedy a certain number of times at each stage of the dilution.
Modern day science cannot explain this phenomenon, however quantum physicists have probably come closest. Their work shows that matter is not simply solid – it shows either particle or wave-like patterns of probability or activity depending on the way it is viewed. Basically, subatomic particles have properties which are only definable and observable through their interaction with other systems, which in turn are interconnections between yet more systems. Thus matter is a series of dynamic rhythms of patterns of energy. As we are dynamic beings ourselves, we have these rhythms also. When these rhythms change, we say we have fallen ill. Homeopathic remedies obliterate these rhythms with similar rhythms and we regain health.
