Naturopathy used to be a blanket term which covered a myriad of natural healing therapies, of which homeopathy is one. Today we tend to use the term Natural Therapies with the term Naturopathy referred to as an individual modality. Whilst all natural therapies subscribe to the healthy lifestyle practices of eating nutritious food, drinking clean water, getting adequate fresh air, exercise and sleep; the individual practices are vastly different. The practice of a Naturopath can encompass affilliated therapies such as kinesiology, iridology, herbalism, aromatherapy, etc. Each naturopath has their own preferences.
Naturopaths can elect to study introductory homeopathic healing in their training and can prescribe homeopathic remedies for acute ailments or first aid situations. However, unless they have taken further homeopathic training, they are not qualified to treat long term or chronic problems homeopathically.
A homeopath studies only homeopathy and related subjects such as Anatomy & Physiology, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Counselling, Student Clinic & others. I have completed a 3-year full-time course to qualify with an Advanced Diploma of Homeopathy. This is the minimum government-endorsed standard for homeopathic competency and education required to practice homeopathy in Australia. As such I am qualified to treat the full range of acute and chronic disorders with homeopathy, whilst a naturopath without further homeopathic training, is not. The Australian Homeopathic Association (AHA) link and the Australian Register of Homeopaths (AROH) link only register those practitioners who meet these standards. These bodies can be contacted for practitioner searches either directly or via the web. I am registered with both bodies.
Apart from the educational differences, naturopathy usually involves the prescription of mineral , herbal and vitamin supplements to address biological imbalances in your body’s systems. Whilst these can be of value, they still require the body to absorb them and make the biochemical adjustments within to get an effect. Homeopathy deals with why the body is not absorbing these elements in the first place – without the need for any more adjustments to be made. Homeopathy helps the body to address the cause/s of the imbalances, allowing it to make the appropriate adjustments itself – giving it a nudge back onto the right pathway, so to speak. Homeopathy also considers emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances which can lead to physical impairments and susceptibilities – at the same time. Thus homeopathy truly is a w-holistic way of healing.
Oh… and it is easy to take and tastes nicer also.
